Super Bowl Snow Cave

We received about 8-10 inches of snow yesterday(2/04/11). We woke up this morning to a beautiful and sunny Super Bowl Sunday. The kids and I headed out to build a possible fort, cave, and/or tunnel. I started with the shovel and in no time had a pile of snow that was as tall as I was. The temperature was around 30 degrees but it felt like 50 as I was starting to sweat. It was now time to start digging.

What Super Bowl Snow Cave would be complete without the optional sledding ramp?

Being the typical boy that he is, James was the first to try out the ramp

Katie was soon to follow.

It was a glorious Super Bowl Sunday for the Kinnan family where everyone was a winner…..and the game hasn’t even started.

Trail Mix Blues

SOMETHING INSTEAD OF TRAIL MIX?

Q.} I am hiking from Mexico to Canada this May (2,650 miles), and my two friends are mostly going to munch on trail mixes–but I can’t eat nuts! What can I eat that is lightweight, yet gives me what my body needs to hike 20-plus miles a day? Submitted by: -Scott W., Thousand Oaks, CA

A.} Jeez, 2,700 miles on trail mix!?! Don’t they want to have fun? Seems to me the most important aspect of eating is enjoying what you eat. Anyway, if you want complete nutrition with light weight, here’s my suggestion: Pack high nutrition granola bars (read the labels) and beef jerky. I’d also throw in a pat or two of butter—real butter—for every day. And probably a powdered energy drink mix. You’ll end up carrying a lighter load than 20 miles a day worth of trail mix too.
