05/24/11 scripture

Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay each person according to what he has done?

– Proverbs 24:11-12

Hiking Las Vegas’s Red Rock Canyon

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

It was a beautiful spring morning just west of Las Vegas in Red Rock Canyon. I chose the White Rock loop trail. The trail is six miles long. However, if you choose to visit the La Madre springs this will extend the trail another mile. I started at 730 am on April 19th and it was 56 degrees. I chose this trail with the chance to see bighorn sheep. I did not see any sheep. However, I saw a rabbit and a bunch of little lizards.  I did visit the La Madre springs which is a little pool that someone dammed up in the sixties. The water very clear and very cold. The first three and a half miles on the north side of White Rock mountain had a variety of trees, shrubs, boulders, and cactii. There were a few parts of the trail that were difficult to hike. On the south side of White Rock mountain was more of am arid desert landscape. There were numerous cactii, tumbleweeds, and lots of little lizards. This part of the trail was a little easier to hike. I returned to the parking lot at 11 am and it was 72 degrees. It took me three and a half hours to hike this seven mile loop. Not bad for a flatlander.

05/23/2011 scripture

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. for we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.  Now we see but a poor reflection in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

05/22/2011 scripture

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perserveres.

05/20/2011 scripture

Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise. It is a man’s honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel. Many a man claims to have unfailing love, but a faithful man who can find? The righteous man leads a blameless life; blessed are his children after him. A gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid a man who talks too much. A man’s steps are directed by the Lord. How then can anyone understand his own way? The lamp of the Lord searches the spirit of a man; it searches out his inmost being.

05/19/2011 scripture

But you dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love.

05/18/2011 scripture

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.”

– John 15:1-4

05/17/2011 scripture

The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife’s body does not belong her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the the husband’s body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife.

05/16/2011 scripture

Awake, north wind, and come, south wind! Blow on my garden, that its fragrance may spread abroad. Let my lover come into his garden and taste its choice fruits.

05/15/2011 scripture

While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and “sinners” came and ate with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice. For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

– Matthew 9:10-13 NIV
