01/26/2011 Survival skill

If you ever get lost or caught in a survival situation, do not panic. The first thing you want to do is STOP.

Sit

Think

Observe

Plan

If you are stuck, you need to find shelter, build a fire, and find water and food. These things are proven to boost hope, morale, and a better chance of surviving. Panicking is the worst thing you do.

1st hike of 2011-01/24/2011

Mahoney State Park

It was a beautiful morning at Mahoney State Park. The temperature was 22° when I left. I hiked three miles in ankle to knee high deep snow. It took me an hour and half, not too bad for the first time this year. Happy hiking.

Wall Sits

Wall sit

Even though it’s winter and it’s to hard to get out on the trail, you still need to train. A good exercise for off-season training is the wall sit.

1. Stand with your back against the wall.

2. Lower yourself until your legs are at a 90° angle.

3. Hold this positition for as long as possible.

This exercise is good for people who have knee problems or don’t want to do squats. If you can do this for over 2 and 1/2 minutes, you are ready for anything.
